You might ask who is he....well well......All Finland is about Alvar Aalto.,..the greatest furniture creator and bets known internationally architect. If you ever been to San Tropez

San Tropez

If you have ever been to San Tropez, - was singing Puff Diddy, do you remember?:)

If you are still a student, but want to how it looks like, Cheap Mediterranean Cruise is waiting for you. Cruise involves French and Italian Rivieras - stoping at exotic port - Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez, Monaco, Genoa, San Remo and Portofino. Maybe it sounds not real, but visit the page Easy Cruise This cruise line is touring in the Mediterranean Sea. Cabins start at $55 per night (based on double occupancy). Not bad! Easy Cruise trips differ from those of other cruise lines in that you can hop on and off anywhere along the cruise route. Dont forget that two night minimum required - two nights in a row; unfortunately you must return to the boat each night. You can book online.

However, the harbour of San Tropez has turned into a parade of the jet set. But nice place to enjoy sunset. I would recommend you weekend visit. It is not enought just to enjoy building and architecture, french artistic mood, but there is the buterfly house waiting for you. Inside this antique house, you will find a selection of all the day butterflies of France which have been collected by Dany Lartigue over the past ten years.

9 RUE ETIENNE BERNY
SAINT-TROPEZ
TEL : 04 94 97 63 45

You can eat a decent meal on places des Lices and rue Georges-Clemenceau, and if you want to haunt the Café des Arts or Bistrot des Lices you can easily part with €40 over dinner. Speaking about bars...
Take the short speedboat shuttle from St Tropez village to sample the finest cocktails in the Cote d'Azur. With spectacular views of the bay, delicious food , you just don't want to leave. So don't - it's open all day, and the hotel is just a pleasant walk away through manicured gardens should you feel the need to get a room.

Each May, Hollywood comes to France for the annual celebration of Cannes film festival.Everyone who is "hot" and anyone who wants to be is here. Since most people go to Cannes during the Film Festival, they are mostly worried about spotting famous people, - celebrities, - therefore they get distracted and pickpockets take action.

If you planning to travel by plane, useful information for you here:

You can also enjoy the train trip: take the train from Nice. It's a nice leisurely trip and takes about half an hour. French Riviera has very good and inexpensive train connection. From Villeneuve-Loubet Nice is 20 min. by train; Antibes 15 min, Cannes 20 min, Eze 40 min, Monaco 1 hour, Ventimiglia 1.5 hour. Beware though that railroad workers go on strike once a week or so; if you plan to visit distance town – check with your local train station in advance.

What should you visit in Cannes except celebrities:

Around the Palais front and the Place General de Gaulle are the handprints of stars who have visited the Festival.Cannes turns into a luxury car showroom. Ferraris, and lamborghinis jostle with Porches and top of the range Mercedes. Cannes also is popular for gambling and fine wines and foods.I bought these beautiful cakes from a bakery just off the seafront.

Mediterranean Archeology, ethnology and Provençale paintings. Location: on top of "Le Suquet" hill at the medieval site overlooking the port. Tel: Open: Oct-Mar, 10h-12h, 14h-17h; Apr-June, 10h-12h, 14h-18h; July-Sept 10h-12h, 15h-19h; Closed Tuesday and holidays.

The Castre Museum is located in the Castre Tower, which was a part of the Cannes castle and was built by monks to protect the bay and the fort in the 11th century. On the top of the tower is a lookout point, which provides an excellent view of the Cannes bay. Guided tours are available.

A visit to Cannes is not complete without a stroll along La Croisette, the splendid boardwalk that stretches along the whole length of Cannes' coastline. Most of them are private, which means you have to pay to gain access. This is one of the most famous promenades in the world. The fine sand beaches below it covered with parasols, changing color with each change of concession. The public beach next to the Palais des Festivals are packed, but for beach with style - sunlounger and all important shade of a parasol, you are going to have to pay 20-30 euro and upwards on one of the many hotel owned private beaches.

shopping in Cannes

Get away from the Croisette or the Rue d'Antibes to enter shopping in the Cannes paradise. The street where the train station is located is loaded with small grocery stores and other necessities. What a difference a few blocks make - the prices are reasonable. I recommend cell phone protectors from the Tourism office at the Palais. Cheap at 1 euro each. And they're such a novelty that they're probably the most unique souvenir you'll ever give. The Grey Street "Shopping Mall" crossing between La Croisette and Rue d'Antibes.crams many illustrious labels under one roof.

Try to find cheap deals for hotels and definetely book it earlier. Cannes festival is waiting for you...

I can smell SUMMER coming...

Suumerrrr...photo by himmel

It already smells like spring, so Summer Hollidays is not far away. Maybe you would like to consider where to go this summer? At this point I don't want to give any suggestions, I just want to share with you the possibilities of cheap travelling.

People who dont like to travel by plane, should take in the consideration that Eurolines is offering travelpass through all the Europien countries. Just check the site and be sure in which counrty you can buy the tickets. Service online also working.

Airlines are growing up like the mushrooms after the rain. You can find really cheap offers and last minute deals. Recently i came up with Jetonly flying from Brussels and offering extremely cheap deals to Mexico, Jamaica and Dominica if you want to go abroad oversea.

Probably already well known Ryanair and Easyjet. It offers really cheap services, but don't be surprised, if you don't get your travelling food. Airports usually also appear to be further from the city you are planning to reach. The only difference is that Ryanair accepts Visa Elecron payment, Easyjet considers Visa more valuable. Bought airlines concentrates on routes to London and from there, you can reach all the possible point in the Europe.

In Baltic countries Latvian Air Baltic is taking place. New routes to Spain. Barcelona only from 69 euros!
HLW.com suugest you flights for the taxi price - be aware of booking it earlier.

If you didn't get the chance to enjoy cruise in the Baltic sea, maybe you want to take in the consideration water travelling. Some new lines opened : Rostock, Tallin, Hellsinki, Sant Petersburg. Silja line, Tallink, Nordic Jet Line, Viking Line is keeping they theis throught the Scandinavian countries.

I also got some tip for SAS customers, that flight to Asia and America are couples hundreds euros cheaper to fligh from Tallinn than Helsinki.

And summer will come so soon...

Be aware of Finnair strikes!

photo from Finnair

Important notice for people who are planning to travel during Easter with Finnair. Inconvenience is expected as Finnair stuards and stuardes are planning to have a strike cause of not satisfaction of working ours. Finnair is still not sure will it manage to cover all the services, but some loses are already expected. Finnair also gives the point that probably cheaper airlines will cover these flights. Strike begins on 26 of March.

"There was so much clear progress in the talks today that there are good reasons to continue the negotiations. However, more time is needed than would have been available" said Salonius, explaining why he had asked for a postponement. He added that if there had not been any progress, he would not have asked for a delay in the beginning of the strike. - writes Helsingin Sanomat

Hundreds of Finnish travelers are uncertain how to get back from their Holidays. One of them is Arja Koskela who is going to Spain with her children. They still remain unaware how to come back. Arja Koskela says:

"I am teaching in the university. I have hundreds of students expecting to come to my classes. The rest of the family is also waiting for the mom to come back home. For us it really woudn't work if we can't get our flight back".

Finnair point outs that even if the strike comes out the Easter flights will be primerily covered.

Let's have calm and pieceful Easter.

Sofia’s main attraction has been its thermal springs, which are still in public use today, as a water source.Roads from all parts of the world have been meeting here nearly 7 000 years. Peoples have come and gone, civilizations have advanced and declined, but the city has remained. More than 250 historic, archaeological and architectural landmarks in the city which the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great once called “My Rome”. Sofia offers a wide range of hotels for both tourists and business travelers. To find out specific hotels and prices, you can use HotelsBulgaria.com.

The best starting point for a walking tour is Ploshtad Sveta Nedelya, the city’s main traffic hub. From here, a grid of streets radiate out towards the inner ring road, which forms an irregular octagon around town. Said to be Sofia’s most photographed monument, Alexander Nevski is a magnificent neo-Byzantine cathedral-sized church, topped by copper and golden domes.
Banya Bashi Mosque) Once there were 70 mosques in Sofia but today the Banya Bashi Dzhamiya is the only one still functioning.

(Women’s Market)
The largest and busiest market in Sofia, Zhenski Pazar offers a wide range of fruit and egetables, cheese, cured meats, dried fruit and nuts, homemade halva and other Turkish-inspired goodies. The stall holders at the Women’s Market were once all women but now male and female easants from the surrounding hills travel to town each morning, to sell their produce here.

The biggest concentration of bars and cafés lies to either side of Vitosha Boulevard. Speaking about cuisine - boiled or roasted meat with potatoes, beans, cheese and salads are the favoured food of the Bulgarian people. They are not known for any particular desserts but appear to drink enormous amounts of alcohol with every meal.

Dont forget pets

By the way, if you traveling in the Europe with your pet, you better check the requirements for each European countries. It would be important to point out that Sweden and Swizeland has different laws. So, take care about it bfore going and have a peaceful vocation.
"On animal health requirements applicable to the non-commercial movement of pet animals and amending Council Directive 92/65/EEC,” entered into force on 3 July 2004. Dear Lisa: one more story

One more story from:

"Dear Lisa,

You had stopped doing drugs when you found out you were pregnant with Gracie. You had Thm_btflyflower2something to look forward to instead of the heart wrenching things to come. You took Grace to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, the hospital where Mark died*. Every few months you had her tested for HIV. You even made a special trip there for her vaccinations because they used dead virus instead of live virus that most doctors gave infants.
You did your research, and everything you could to make sure Gracie would be alright. It was a very difficult time knowing that she too could have been infected with the HIV virus The AIDS epidemic was fairly new at the time and treatment was wild guessing at best. Finally when she was about two years old she got a clean bill of health from the tests.
You know, when I think back at your life I realize that you went through hell, yet you always smiled and joked around. When you got angry, though, you were a wild woman. The mental picture I have of you though, is laughing and walking around multitasking at top speed. Where you ever got the energy, I'll never know. I got tired just watching you!
Near the end things got very confusing to me. I so wanted to be there for you, and even asked you to let me take care of you when the time came. I blew that chance and I'll always regret it. You wound up going away from home to a friend's house, leaving Gracie with her dad. You got your affairs in order, had a will, and left Nattie Boush a letter with your cross inside the envelope. I wish you could have left me a letter, but you had given me the photo album. You told me they were your favorite pictures and when I asked why you would give me your favorite pictures, you simply said "for safe keeping." I tried very hard to shake the feeling that you must have known you were near the end.

*Mark was Lisa's brother, our son, who passed away at the age of 28 in 1991 from a cerebral hemorrhage. He will soon become part of this blog."

Sleepless city: Mr. London

Probably the most popular today's destination - London. If you are smart enough to book tickets earlier with Easy Jet, Ryanair, Air Baltic or even nowadays-British Airways (which suggest even vegetarian menu), you can get really cheap flight for a longer weekend. Probably the first question that acquires in your mind if where to stay? Online services suggest a lot of discounted hotels and you can find really cheap fares. But be careful while booking hotels and check it out in which part of London it is - cause London is about using local transport. If you appear to have hotel in Zone 1, 2, 3 - you are damn successful.

One time I happened to live in the very center of London - it actually changes the way of understanding London. It gives slightly different mood; maybe you have the better chance to understand that London actually never sleeps. As I was in the center one week, I couldn’t figure out the single period of time in 24 hours, that you would see empty streets. Seems that it just simply doesn’t happen. But as my blog I much more student oriented, lets see from that perspective. If your budget is not very big, you should remember that there is a lot of stuff that you can see in London for free. Tate and Science Museums are fro free and really worth seeing. You should also be aware that it would take some time to see some expositions.

Tate and spiderisimo... photo by Kenny

Tate is definitely the place about the art. You will be surprised about sound acoustics there and of course, the spider. The Tate displays international modern art from 1900 to the present. The Tate Britain displays 500 years of British art, the Tate Liverpool is the largest modern art gallery in the UK outside of London, and the Tate St. Ives displays modern British art. Works from well knows geniuses as Picasso till very experimental works. The place is located next the Thames river, entrance into the museum is through Turbine Hall. To get to The Tate take the Underground to Southwark or Blackfriars. The walk from either is about 10 minutes. Going further you will find London eye, Salvador Dali museum, London Aquarium.

Science Museum is not only the place for kids. We had a really great fun there. You will be amazed visiting Museums shop, what a crazy stuff they got there. Everything for your imagination. According to the magazine "New Scientist", Science Museum in 2005 opened Nanotechnology exhibition.

One of the interesting options was just local market – food, clothes, and accessories. All these little things. If you happen to be cold, definitely try to find hot cider, it makes you feel moodyJ There are couple of them in London. Just be careful to check on which days it is working. But it is definitely a great fun. But all the travels are about the individuals. It depends with who are you traveling and what makes you happy. One can get exited in Oxford Street, another will be happy just sitting next to the Thames enjoying the sunshine.

Moi moi!

If you happen to he in Tallinn, don't miss the opportunity to go Helsinki - even for one day. You can take the ferry in morning and come back in evening. At the moment you be able to use slow ships - it will take you 3, 5 h. But as soon as the ice melt away, you can enjoy fast ships as Nordik Jet. If you book the ticket online from it, you get extra cheap fare. If you are planning to use the same ship company for going there and back, would be wise to you Silja line. But you really hate ships and are afraid of water, the helicopter is waiting for you!

Photos from ¤

Helsinki is not far from Tallinn, only 85 km. But the difference is slightly different. I would suggest just to go and see it. Already buy eneting the Helsinki harbour, you can smell the Scandinacian atmospere and prepare for extra charging.

For me still remains the one place in Helsinki so special as nothing else - Contemporary Art Museum - Kiasma. Located in the very centre, next to the Post and Forum, Railway station. The architecture design of this building will help you not to miss it. You can enjoy there a new exhibitions, video festivals, free seminars or even the coffe in the lounge. Be aware, if you order Tupla coffe, it doesnt mean that you will have chocolate Tupla inside, it is just double. Tupla means double.

Kiasma

There are certain small details what is Finland about. Don't even dare to leave Finland without figuring out what salmiakki is about. You will also notice that people instead of Fanta drink Jaffa. There is funny site to understand it's culture paths...

Finland is famous about its design and architecture. Probably you will be interested to know why everyone has something of Marimekko?:) Who is Alvar Aalto. New Kamppi shopping moll should be done by the end of this year. It will be hugeeee! It is right in the centre, so you don't need to travel far away to reach it.
For garden lovers, it would be worth to visit Winder Garden. People also like to enjoy Amusement park - Linnanmäki. Main atraction is a ride built in the 1950s. For picknic or for walk you can have a leisure time in Southern Cost Kaivopuisto. Also as a walk around destination you can choose töölönlahti. You can enjoy architecture of houses in linnunlaulu.

There are two biggest SUMMER FESTIVALS in Helsinki. One of them is koneisto, it is the biggest electornic music festival in Scandinavia. Tuska open air - HEAVY METAL FESTIVAL. These are the only one festivals organized in the centre. Night of hearts happens once a year - the city is full of events such as music performances, light shows, exhibitions.

Drug Addiction: memories from christmas

Maybe you will be surprised about this post, but i just wanted to point out this. I found this blog while looking for some information. And it is very touching...
There is not a sinlge world in this post starting from " mine... I am just copy pasting, but i believe that beaufiful words should be spread out....

All information taken from here Dear Lisa

"Drug Addiction

Dear Lisa,
You would be proud of me, I went cold turkey in May and had my last relapse on Christmas Eve. Of course I completely ruined my Christmas. I only remember a little bit about Christmas Eve at Mick and Christie's. It was one of the most hurrendous expreiences I've had.
I had been all excited about Christmas this year because I was able to get nice gifts for everyone. I bought most of the gifts online. It was great, they came a little at a time and IIpills7 didn't have to stay up all night wrapping them. I just wrapped them as they came. I couldn't wait to see the reactions of the family as they opened the gifts! Then came the pain. I asked Dad to help me out, and he did. OOPS
In the past, I would forget phone calls and people who came to see me, but this time I WANTED to remember. I had a couple of setbacks, but this one was a wopper. Gracie made a nice photo collage for me, and I can only remember her giving it to me as sort of a dream, only in my case it was a nightmare.
I only started seeing the pain specialist because of my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Your Dad recommended him to me, so I went. I didn't understand what I was getting myself into. (I do that alot, not realizing what I'm getting myself into.) I had a great job that I loved, and had to leave it becuase I couldn't stay awake. I blamed that on the chronic fatigue, and I guess it's true because I go through periods of not being able to stay awake even now. When I was taking the "medicine" for my pain, nothing mattered to me. I stayed in bed for a few years, except to go to visit Melodie in Florida. I had some of the meds, but wound up going cold turkey from not having any fentenyl. When I got back home, I went to the doctor's and got all my refills, and it was back to the same comatose state.
I watched your father go from one addiction to another, and didn't stop to see myself doing the same thing. I went from the "medicine" to an online buying site, then to compulsive eating. I had such a craving for sweets! Now I'm "blogging." At least this is something that is positive. What is my incentive? Life. I figured that your incentive was always having the threat of death at your door, something you shouldn't have had to go through.
Poor Nattie Bouch, she tried so hard to make me realize that I had an addiction. I didn't believe it because I was never addicted to anything. Well, the diet pills my mother gave me when I was 14 maybe. So I stayed away from "uppers" because I knew my weakness. I never liked "downers." They would make me sleepy so I skipped them altogether. Alcohol messed with my stomach. Back "in the day" I smoked pot for recreation only - I didn't need it. I was convinced I was not an addict and could handle myself accordingly - until this Christmas. I guess that was God's gift to me, finally realizing my addiction and owning up to it."

Danish pastries

The oasis of the Europe with the medievel smell of Hamlet. Denmark is Scandinavian country with
the biggest capital - Copenhagen. Roskilde festival, H.C.Anderson and Danish design. But what it is really about? From Estonian air you can get flights from 700 eek one way. Also attractive choice could be the ferry! Expecially for those who care about enviroment polution. From Copenhagen by ferry it is easy to reach Oslo.

Can you find it? ...photos by himmel also ¤ #

Copenhagen is know as very clean and organized city. The same, as in the London, you shouldn’t miss the changing of the guard in Amalienborg’s central square at noon. Going down way to see the de facto of Copenhagen - Little Mermaid, don't hesistate to taste some Danish pastries. The story of The Little Mermaid is not a very happy one - she does not get her loved one, even though visiting a witch and agreeing to give the witch her tongue, in exchange for legs to replace her fish tail. And every step she took on her legs, hurt like she was walking on swords. So in order to get her love, she became a mute and was in pain with every step she
took. The things you do for love...I still can remember Russian animation according to that story.....and that so madly sad musiC.

But whatever you will happen to do, don't miss National Museum!!!

On another hand Copenhagen is so story telled about the Christiania. Christiania is thus one of the greatest tourist attractions in Copenhagen, and abroad it is a well-known "brand" for the progressive and liberated Danish lifestyle. The purpose is to show something Danish that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. It is so called Freetown. Magic mixture of the green environment and villages with metropolitan life. It is also called as the "loosers Paradise".

If you still want to save it.

Marihuana has been an integral part of Christiania from the very start. During the late '90s sales to visitors accelerated and it became a multi-million business, drawing much attention from the rest of Christiania.Early on, Christiania realised that hard drugs could destroy its fragile society, and the inhabitants simply expelled vendors of anything other than marihuana. This has been respected ever since, and Christiania is the only place in Denmark where such drugs are not sold. For some time it was the only place in the EU, there everything was legal and laws couldn't go arround it.

But todays Christiania existance is threatining like never before.

Go, until it is not too late.

Visit Europe by train

train

Probably the most popular way of travelling today is buy train. Gossips are going on around about interrail, fake tickets. But maybe let's for one time make sure what it is about.

Interrail tickets works according to the ZONES from A to H. This is how it varies the prices of which countries you want to cross and for how long. Global ticket would cost you double price, but let you visit all the Zones. You can buy tickets from railpass.com. Looks simple, but there are some thing you might want to rememeber.

It is recommended to make reservations for the most trains as it often required. It costs about 3 euros and you can be sure you will have a seat. Recommended to book 3 days ago.
If you happen to appear in train station at night, you would better remember that some of them closes at night. Anyway, it happens so, don't be lazy to check this page. Some of the places are really cheap and you dont have to spend night in station or park.

By the way, if you are using Europass, be careful as you not always can use Night trains. It is work so that comfortable stuff needs to be reserved before.

Be careful with you money and passports. Never use too much luggage. If you travel alone, maybe better take pepper spray... but be careful, is it allowed in the countries you are travelling.
